This Ayurvedic medication is a great colon cleanser and it works like a rejuvenating tonic for the colon. It improves the appetite and nourishes the bones and nerves. It is commonly used to treat chronic constipation. You can even boost its efficacy, by increasing the content of Haritaki, which is the main laxative.

Dosage: consume 5 – 15 grams mixed with warm water, once a day before going to bed.

  1. Psyllium Husk Powder

Add 1-2 teaspoons to a glass of warm water and consume before going to bed.

  1. Milk And Ghee

The consumption of warm milk with ghee also works as an effective natural remedy for constipation as it lubricates the colon and facilitates passage of stools.

  1. Rhubarb And Ginger

This remedy is extremely effective for acute constipation. You can prepare the concoction using 3 gms of rhubarb root powder and 2 gms of ginger powder. This should be consumed with a glass of warm water before you go to sleep.

  1. Castor Oil

This is one of the most popular remedies for constipation, used across the world today. You should consume 1-3 teaspoons of the oil before bedtime.

The use of enema and purgation should not be tried out at home, unless your health care provider has specifically instructed you to do so. Instead, use these remedies for relief and also try taking steps to prevent constipation in the future.

It is important to maintain a consistent routine to enhance the efficient function of your biological clock and bowel movements. To this end, try out the following:

  • Awake at dawn and drink a glass of warm water or an herbal tea
  • Practice a gentle physical activity like yoga to encourage bowel movements
  • A gentle abdominal massage with oils will also help
  • Have a healthy breakfast with oatmeal, milk, and ghee
  • Consume a glass of prune or grape juice
  • Cut down on the intake of spicy, hot, and dry food
