How Coca-Cola Affects Your Body: The Damage From One Coke in One Hour (Infographic)

Coco cola India is the sixth largest market for coke in the world. All of us know that colas are not good for us but most of us don’t fully understand all the health effects of Coke. From the very first swig, Coke starts to affect your body – from damaging your teeth to ruining your bone health and increasing your risk of obesity, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Harmful Ingredients In Coke

Unlike fruit juices that contain some amount of healthy nutrients, Coke is simply flavored and colored water! While the exact Coco Cola recipe is a carefully guarded secret, the ingredient list includes a wide variety of chemicals. Here’s a look at how some of the ingredients in coke harm you:

Phosphoric Acid

Phosphoric acid interferes with your body’s ability to absorb and utilize calcium. This leads to tooth and bone damage – this side effect of coke can cause rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults.

The high sugar content in Coke increases insulin levels which in turn increases your blood pressure and your cholesterol levels. Consuming simple unhealthy carbs like sugar will also increase your risk for weight gain and obesity as well as diabetes and heart disease. Sugar also wreaks havoc on your skin and so drinking coke will increase facial wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Aspartame is a sugar substitute used in diet Coke to reduce the calorie content of the drink. However, this chemical has been linked to several health effects including emotional disorders, seizures, and brain tumors. It has also been linked to an increased risk of birth defects and epilepsy.

The regular 750 ml bottle of Coke contains over 70 mg of caffeine. This is why high-caffeine drinks like Coco-Cola often cause jitters, irregular heartbeat, insomnia and sleep disorders . Drinking Coke will also increase your blood pressure levels and your blood cholesterol levels and it could even increase your risk of certain forms of cancer. A high caffeine intake has also been linked to vitamin and mineral depletion and it can cause breast lumps and birth defects.

Other Health Dangers Of Coke

One small bottle of coke a day increases your risk of diabetes by up to 85 %. Coke also contains several chemical preservatives which cause DNA damage. This is one of the most serious coca cola health effects as DNA damage increases your risk of several serious health heart disease and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Coke also contains sodium benzoate. This chemical reacts with the ascorbic acid in the drink to form benzene which is a known carcinogen. This is why people who drink coke on a regular basis have a much higher risk of cancer.
